I just watched "Raiders of the Lost Ark" again last night. Anybody got
it on tape? If so, what's the serial number stenciled on the crate with
the Ark in that last scene? The *exact* text of the labeling would be
nice too. A GIF, or PNG (or even a JPG if all else fails) of *just* the
crate with the stencilling showing would be a nice bonus.

Why? Well, I flashed on the salvage thread.

...............

The PCs have found an *old* Solomani ship, say from the period of the
original wars with the Ziru Sirka. It's obviously intended as a *fast*
secure courier. The crew is dead (some accident). And there's this old
(at least a century older than the ship) wooden crate in the hold.

It's got something stenciled on it in what may be an old version of
Galanglic. It's rather cryptic.
Yes. *That* crate. :-)
Not necessarily. Space, after all, is not flat. If the ship
failed to make the turnover, then perhaps it got
redirected by one or more of the dips (gravity wells) in
the road.

Coincidence is the stuff that legends are made of.
Maybe it even made a great circle and the ship made the
turn-over it missed the first time around!
Reminds me of a time back in my college days, where one
of the local public library branches had a library
assistant from Australia visit on a six-month exchange,
from mid-June to mid-December. She came to talk to our
class one time, Library Science being my field of study.
Later that fall we had class sweatshirts made for ourselves,
and had a few extras made. One, we gave to the visiting
Australian. This was in early November. She remarked that
this was a very appropriate gift, what with how cold it
was getting -- temperatures down around -5 C (about 25 F).
The branch head librarian, who was with us when we gave
her the shirt, remarked "This is nothing -- wait until it
gets down to minus 40!" The Australian library assistant
almost choked on her coffee on that one...

(It didn't get down to -40 until about six weeks after she
returned to Australia...)
Actually it can be expressed as a nibble and a half in binary 101010!
You can save that half a byte till later.
In octal it's 52!
In hexadecimal it's 2A (but that's just boring) ;-)
These abdicated Dukes would make interesting patrons, powerful in a
behind-the-scenes-way. The sort of Patron that PCs could devote working full
time for as they may have very interesting (and lucrative) agendas of their
own that may diverge from the official Ducal agenda considerably.
E2TBP was the first AD&D adventure I was ever in, which meant that things were
*really* confusing!! First, this was the first time I had *ever* done this
strange thing called "roleplaying", and second, it was in a metal dungeon!! The
Daleks were nasty... (yes our GM was a ratbag and threw them in, just after we
had watched whatever the latest Who/Dalek episode was).

Later in life, we played E2TBP as a _Traveller_ adventure... set on Utoland,
while Heinrich Volkstrangler (SEE my Library Data entry) invaded the planet.
Tell you what though, having a battle computer makes it easy to bypass those
bloody door passcards!

Actually, from memory, someone at Menelvagor LIC still _has_ some of that
shielded power armour... just don't hit it with a laser, the (afore-mentioned)
ratbag DM made it a Dune-type shield: Dune shield + laser = BOOM! :-O
Well, consider the cost.. Assume that the world you want to purchase
weapons on is J-1 away. That's Cr. 16,000 at least to have a fairly good
chance of living through the journey. After that, there's the problem of
residency. I can't just cross the border into Oregon or Nevada and go
shopping, the dealer will want to see my ID. It's a violation of federal
to knowing sell an illegal firearm, and since whatever toy I've come all
the way to another state to buy is probably banned in California (which is
the safest state in the country, just take a night-time stroll through East
LA!) they can't sell it to me.

In Traveller, I think customs would be very curious about people making
short trips to lower law level worlds. Baggage searches would be common.
Suddenly remembered one of the funniest moments of my military life.

We were doing MOUT exercises. The Company CO had promised a day off on the
next Friday for the squad with the fastest time in getting into a second
story window. This normally entails throwing a grappling hook through the
window and climbing up. As we went along, the average time was hovering
around six or seven minutes. The First Sergeant called for one of 2nd
Platoon's squads, who had vanished into the tree line about 20 meters away.

They appeared at a dead run, carrying a 12 foot long tree trunk that they
had trimmed the branches off of, leaving short stumps. Two men took cover
positions while the rest of the squad swarmed up this improvised ladder
into the room. Total time, about 45 seconds.

Needless to say, they got the day off.
In the closing credits of the edition i've seen, they had both A-[kana
glyph Ko] and Aiko. It was a subtitled version, released in the US.

I've seen another version, english dubbed, but with all the credits in
Nihonjin. That version also had the A-[Kana Glyph Ko]

I've seen shelves with at least two other releases for the English speaking
consumer; thus a total of 4 different releases... I wish I owned (rather
than borrowed) to be able to cite more properly.
